The Malta Academy Selection Committee (MASC), in collaboration with the Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) and the Malta Producers Association (MPA), announces an open call for Maltese feature films for consideration in the 98th edition of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards (the “Academy Awards” or “Oscars”). Local films may be submitted for participation in the International Feature Film category.

Deadline: Monday 1st September 2025, Noon

Submitted films must abide by the following criteria:

– be produced by creative(s) that are Maltese citizen or resident, or individuals with refugee or asylum status;

– have a runtime of 40 minutes and over;

– have a minimum of 50% of the dialogue in a non-English language;

– must have been first released in its country of origin between 1st October, 2024 and 30th September, 2025;

– have been released in a commercial theatre (i.e. cinema, not TV) for at least seven consecutive days, allowing audiences to fully experience the filmmakers’ artistic vision.

Producers are invited to submit their films for consideration to the Selection Committee by sending a Vimeo link (or equivalent) to maltaacademyselectioncommittee@gmail.com.  Additional information will be requested by the Committee to verify the film’s completeness and eligibility.

Eligible entries will be judged by a panel of film experts and professionals. The selected candidate will then be eligible to participate in the 98th edition of the Oscars.
