Submissions are open for the 99th Oscars: Submit your film!

The Malta Academy Selection Committee (MASC), established jointly by the Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) and the Malta Producers’ Association (MPA), announces an open call for Maltese feature films for consideration in the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

Deadline: Tuesday 1st September 2026, noon CEST.

Submitted films must abide by the following criteria:

• Have a runtime of over 40 minutes;
• Have a dialogue track that is predominantly (more than 50%) in a language other than English, with accurate and legible English-language subtitles;
• Have been first released theatrically in its country or region of origin for paid admission, between 1st October 2025 and 30th September 2026;
• Have been first publicly exhibited for at least seven consecutive days in a commercial motion picture theatre, for the profit of the producer and exhibitor, with the seven consecutive days occurring in one venue;
• Have been advertised and exploited in a manner considered normal and customary to theatrical feature distribution practices;
• Not, in any version, have received a non-theatrical public exhibition or distribution before its qualifying theatrical release;
• Have had creative control largely in the hands of citizens, residents, or individuals with refugee or asylum status in Malta.

Producers are invited to submit their films for consideration to the Selection Committee by sending a secure, password-protected link to the complete film (with accurate and legible English-language subtitles) to maltaacademyselectioncommittee@gmail.com. Additional information may be requested by the Committee to verify the film’s completeness and eligibility.

Eligible entries will be judged by a panel of film experts and professionals. Only one film may be submitted to the Academy as Malta’s official selection.
