MEIA welcomes new Music Committee Members

Nicholas Bonello

He studied Music Business at SAE in Amsterdam and has been a crucial part of Kewn Records, focusing on A&R and artist management. His involvement extends to the Rock the South festival, and this year he also took care of artist hospitality at Earth Garden, showcasing his dedication to the music scene.
Nicholas is also a creative force as a member of the local post-metal band, Niket. He directed a documentary, “Brotherhood,” which delves into the metal scene in Malta, demonstrating his passion and commitment to documenting and promoting the genre.
 Furthermore, Nicholas has been working with Phantom Limb in the UK and various other labels, and he is actively engaged in PR with Five Worlds PR, as well as handling metadata and label administration.

Luke Camilleri

Luke is a skilled music video director, editor, sound mixer, sound designer, and boom operator. As the owner and founder of 141 Records since 2014, he has been a driving force in the independent music scene.
Known by his stage name, FunkyMonkey, Luke has been active as a DJ, producer, beatboxer, drummer, and MC since 2012. He is a member of several music groups, including Oxygyn, Ġujo, and Sempliċiment Tat-Triq, showcasing his diverse talents and contributions to the music community, from pop to jazz to hip hop.
In addition to his work with 141 Records, Luke has organized numerous events for the hip hop scene, including open mics and other community gatherings, demonstrating his commitment to fostering and promoting local talent.

Gordon Scerri

Gordon Scerri (Gordon Flash) has been a mainstay in Malta’s underground scene for the better part of three decades. Heavily influenced by the sounds that emerged in London and Berlin in the 90sandthe underground electronic movements from the US, his approach to DJing showcases a mature ear that favours a dynamic sound, championing fast paced low-end percussive elements and soundscapes. In addition to Djing, he also co-runs two daytime event promotions, in.di.go. (Indigo MT) and waX, while also managing Solid Tracks Records.

Jose Calderón Gálvez

Since he was a child, he was attracted to music, especially the percussion. “My mother gave me a darbouka when I was 10 years old in my birthday, and from then, my relationship with percussion started”. He was born in Seville (Spain), the birthplace of Spanish flamenco and has always been in contact with Flamenco culture and artists, playing the rhythms with the traditional percussion (cajón and bongo) and claps. In his young age he was always attracted by world music and started travelling to Morocco every year for holidays, meeting and playing with different musicians, dedicating his studies to Oriental music. In his twenties he moved to Madrid, where he started his musician’s training, exploring, studying and creating very different projects around Brazilian, African, Arabic, Latin and Indian music. His journey was always followed by yearly travels around the world to India, Africa , Brazil, Cuba, Europe where he found training and collaborations to enrich his skills, knowledge and experience. He is based in Malta since 2013 where have created and participated in many different projects with Maltese and International artists. In 2018 he founded the project “Trakadum” school of percussion and performing arts giving the best training based on  cultural folk heritage. In 2019 he created the yearly event “Trakafest” which is a gathering that invites different cultures to celebrate diversity and inclusion values through music.

Annemarie Spiteri

Annemarie Spiteri is a 34-year-old vocalist and performing artist, primarily active in the underground music scene. Through her performances, she began to feel a growing need to enhance the persona she projected on stage, leading her to start vocal lessons. However, her inability to play an instrument inspired her to experiment with drama, movement, and prop-making while performing. 
 
Participating in a variety of courses and workshops offered by various organizations both locally and online, Annemarie furthered her studies through Trinity College exams in performing arts, dance, and movement. She is currently enrolled at Center Stage Malta, a performing arts school. Her current musical endeavors and band have her performing both locally and abroad, participating in various festivals around Europe, and sharing the stage with big names in the field such as Sepultura, Riverside, Behemoth, Within Temptation, Septic Flesh, Focus, and Arthur Brown, to name but a few. Her performance with Viper Soup Complex, include a mesh up of theatrics and singing, acting and dancing. 
 
Annemarie is also the organizer of the SoundArt Festival in Malta, which aims to provide the underground music scene with a platform for exchange, enabling performers to showcase their talents in other partnering countries, including Romania and Bulgaria. A psychotherapist by profession, Annemarie is currently looking for ways to further push the scene and integrate the creative arts into her everyday work.
 

The Music Committee of MEIA is dedicated to advancing the interests of Malta’s music community. Supporting musicians, producers, promoters, and educators, the committee serves as a vital platform for addressing the challenges and opportunities within the local music scene. It works to promote collaboration, support emerging talent, and advocate for policies that benefit the music industry as a whole. The Music Committee plays a key role in nurturing a thriving, dynamic musical ecosystem in Malta.
